Gate Way to Mongolia

The olzii, or never-ending knot, is a traditional Mongolian motif symbolizing the dynamic expanse of the universe and the endless cycles of life and death.  This symbol is used widely in Mongolia as decorative art. The pattern for this quilt, including the border, was taken from the door of a Mongolian “ger” (yurt.)  You may use either a dark or light background with contrasting olzii and border.  Shading with similar values in the olzii adds to the subtle woven effect making your own striking example of  Mongolian art.

Dragonfly Wonder – A Garden Playground

This class is perfect for confident beginners as well as experienced quilters.  You will learn how to cut fabric in layers, shuffle the shapes and piece them back together into sections that combine to create playful dragonflies in a blooming garden on 14” blocks of fabric.  Each quilter will create her own unique one-of-a-kind quilt using Nancy’s easy method.  Class fee includes Nancy’s original pattern!

Twin Peaks – Quilts from Easy Strip Pieced Triangles

In this class Nancy introduces a really unique technique involving triangles cut from strip sets.  The confident beginner and the more experienced quilter will learn this wonderful method of manipulating strip sets to create pairs of triangles – twice as fast as working with one at a time.  The endless combinations possible with this eary-peasy shortcut makes really stunning quilts.  Nancy’s technique is provided in a handout to take home.

Folded Log Cabin

Our own Marbe will show you how to create this stunning variationon the traditional log cabin block based on the book, Folded Log Cabin Quilts by Sarah Kaufman.  Students will complete two or more folded log cabin blocks in class that can be used in future projects.  Marbe will show examples of wall and table art.  Other suggested uses are table runners and wall hangings or as blocks to anchor the design of a garment or handbag. This technique is versatile, fun, quick, beautiful and a favorite of everyone who’s tried it.

The Bears Come Out at Night

This charming crib quilt or wall hanging features Sawtooth Star Bear Paw blocks set with three sizes of Ohio Stars. Kaleidoscopic Pinwheels

This class is INSTANT GRATIFICATION!  Maggie’s pinwheels will delight, excite and even become addictive.  Inspired by Bethany Reynold’s Magic Stack’N Whack, Maggie has devised a technique that makes the pinwheels appear to float on their background.  Each “star” is a revelation.  You will learn to sew precise sharp points and heavenly quilts with this simple and forgiving method.  Awesome!

Mod Quads Quilt

By the Sea Wall Hanging

Welcome to the beach – but no sunscreen is required for this class!  Dunes and waves are freely stitched on this beautiful quilt, designed as a narrow rectangle for dramatic wall display.  Add lacy waves or seashells as special embellishments.  The curves are very easy to do and quite freeing – no matching of seams.  If you have wanted to try a landscape quilt, now is the time with this class.

Freemotion Bobbin Work Tree

Join Nancy to learn this fascinating technique using specialty threads and yarns that don’t usually fit in your machine.  Nancy will show you how to create a beautiful three-dimensional tree using only a hoop, stabilizer and those beautiful specialty threads you’re always admiring.  This is an excellent way to begin free-motion sewing if you haven’t yet tried it and a delightful new application if you are experienced.  This is a really fun technique!!!

Card Making by Embroidery Machine

Nancy returns in the afternoon to demonstrate and teach card making using your embroidery machine.  Bring test sew outs from you machine, variegated threads and embellishments and create lovely personalized cards.  Wonderful to use as greeting cards or note catrds.  Great class to sew away the afternoon and take home a beautiful finished project.  They are addictive!!
